I'm back.

Tue Dec 8, 2009, 4:47 PM
Hello :)

Where do I begin?

I will try to make it quick.

I went to Malia, Crete in August. I stupidly left my bag containing my crappy Samsung camera full of holiday snaps (not to mention my friends expensive make-up and the last of her spending money) to the side in a club while we were dancing, and it got stolen.
I walked the entire strip, in every bar, every club, every restaurant, peered rather obviously over everyone's shoulders, clenched fists, party mood flattened, looking for this bag. I knew it was pointless, but there was no harm in trying.
Well, obviously I was unsuccessful.

My birthday present from my boyfriend was a Canon. I have longed for a Canon, or at least a "proper camera" for 3 years. And I finally have it! :D
Canon Powershot SX20 IS, to be precise.
Only trouble is..I can't find anything to photograph!
It's all up in my head, and has been for months, but it's not working when I try to make it happen.
I know it will come eventually, but I want it to come now!

So I am slowly getting back into it. Prepare yourselves for many crappy shots - believe me, I will hate them too.
But i'm desperate to produce some work.

My Book.

My book is finished!

My copy of Exploration of an Unknown World came in the post yesterday and i'm so pleased with the final result.

It's available to buy at blurb.com in 3 different styles.

You don't know just how grateful I will be of your support; I've put a lot of effort into this and it would be such a shame to see that I am the only one who has a copy!

So I went to Mallorca for 11 days with 2 friends and their parents. I had an amazing time! Met some wonderful people who I hope to go out and work with soon and took loads of fab pictures!

- Okay..that last bit is a lie. I hardly took any photos to put on here! I'm so annoyed, but I just didn't get the chance :(

However, i've uploaded 3 new ones from Mallorca, 1 of which i'm pretty excited about - Viva La Vida - so please give me feedback on that!
Edit: Well apparently no one likes that picture! Which i'm really disappointed about :(

I really wanna start working on some portraiture soon, i'm mega eager to find a model! Just one of my friends or something, but I don't know if any of them would be up for it :/
If not, i'll just use myself, but I'm proper thinking of buying some costumes from charity shops!

We'll see.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a fab summer! Thanks for all the feedback on my work lately, it's uberly appreciated

Make sure you all fit in some me-time this summer.

I created a logo :) I haven't used the name anywhere before, but I wanted to make my photos more personal for myself, so I'm adding the logo to all my photos from now onwards. Please let me know what you think of it :)

If you will allow me to say so myself, i'm feeling quite proud of myself lately. The photos I took in Egypt are such an improvement to my work. I can't believe how well they turned out.

You may have noticed I've drawn myself away from self-portraits, and pointed my camera the other way. Lot's of landscapes and just..stuff outside :) I haven't been able to stop taking and editing photos since I uploaded those ones from Egypt, it's inspired me so much :D

Now then..

FEATURES
Lately I've seen sooo many artists that have inspired me with new ideas, so I feel it's time I did my bit to show them off :)
In order of how much they've inspired me:

First has to be Corinne - She's the reason I joined DA, and also why I started taking more photos
:iconstuckwithpins:

I'm adding my pumpkin Andy for being such a darling to me all the time, and for buying me my first subscription for my birthday!
:iconphoenixuk:

These artists have just kept me going with my photography, opening my mind to new things:

Oh, just quickly. Is there something on your mind that's really bugging you, but you don't know who to talk to about it? Feel completely free to talk to me, whether it be about your depression or you're suffering from unoraganization! I'm the Agony Aunt of the world, sister to Mother Nature if you like ;) I'll be more than happy to help, send me a note or add me on MSN.

Okay so hey, i'm Ellen and thought I should create a DA for the sake of it. It's mainly to obtain people's opinions of my work, to see whether i'm the only one who likes it, or i'm the next big thing. But it's also to give me a kick up the backside and get me taking more photos.

I'm more of an editor than a photographer. I first started editing my photos of myself, purely to hide the blemishes etc. for Myspace.com, of course :) but as I experimented, I began to add effects; not your every day blurring and what not, but colours and tools that i can use to make a photo look more..i don't know the word. But just better :)

After I got sick of my own face, or i'd had an ugly phase for a long time resulting in no photos to edit, I started either on pictures of other people, or landscapes/inanimate objects, just doing the same thing really, just for practice.

Then I wanted to learn something new. I'd spotted Macabre art, and decided i'd like to create something alike. So to get the basic idea of how to do it, I hooked myself up with a little tutorial and got right into it, and produced a few beginner pieces of work.

However, I soon couldn't be bothered with it anymore, due to the amount of time it consumed, and went back to people/landscapes, and just practiced and practiced and practiced, trying new and exciting things.

Then after that, I wanted something else new. I decided to teach myself how to creat web layouts, after i'd seen some pretty nice jobs. I could do the designing part, but when it came to the slicing, I failed. I soon gave that up, but hopefully i'll learn properly at some point, and make some really nice stuff.

So later on, I got the new computer for my room, which meant two things; i'd spend even more of my life online, and i didn't have Photoshop. I tried once or twice to transfer it to this computer, yet it failed to open once I got it onto here, so of course I gave up. I completely forgot about it for a few months, resulting in no practice and no new pictures at all. Until a good friend zipped it up and sent it to me a few weeks ago, and since then i've gotten right back into it. Well, not so much, I used to spend days finding new pictures to play with. But now I just use it for actual jobs I need doing.

So after all that information, which now seems pointless, I hope you enjoy my work. I am only a beginner still in the photography side of things, and I suppose the editing too if you look at in the long run. But I just hope for some feedback on my pictures, good or bad, and some better pieces will be put up along the way as i hopefully improve.

And if you actually read that, thanks. :)
